The odalisques are waking up, taking control of their desires and they will no longer let anyone speak for them. From now on, they are the mistresses of the harem, but they are willing to share and invite us to immerse ourselves with them in the space of our sensations… In TURN ON, Moroccan-born Swiss dancer and choreographer Soraya Leïla Emery uses her dual culture as a prism through which she questions the experience of feminine pleasure. She is not alone in this exploration: she is accompanied by two other artists, who, like her, have been molded and educated by two different identities. Drawing on a range of bodily techniques from dance and martial arts, as well as Orientalist representations, they explore notions of gaze and consent. In a shifting space, constantly reshaped by light and sound, where they move alone and together, each asserts her place with strength and delicacy. They free themselves. And they liberate us along with them.
