Yan Duyvendak is from the Netherlands but he lives between Geneva and Marseille; he is internationally renowned in the world of performing arts. His pieces Still in Paradise, Please, Continue (Hamlet), Sound of Music and ACTIONS examine how we, as citizens, grapple with social models and political as well as social commitment. VIRUS and TWIST are more playful, and these pieces focus on collective structures and how collaboration and empathy can foster new possibilities for empowerment. In addition to his activity as an artist, he was head of the “art-action” division in the Haute école d’art et design (HEAD – Geneva), where he’s been teaching since September 2020. He received the Swiss Art Award three years in a row (2002, 2003, 2004), and he was awarded the Namics Kunstpreis für Neue Medien (2004), and the Network Kulturpreis (2006). In 2010, he was awarded the prestigious Meret Oppenheim Prize and in 2019, he received the Grand Prix Suisse du Théâtre / Anneau Hans Reinhart.
