I need help immediately: the first notes pretty much say it all. And yet, the changing accents of this fragmented score seem to warn us not to trust it from the get go. Adél Juhász, a spirited and tempestuous Hungarian dancer with a high performative potential, knows what she’s doing when it comes to mislead us and play with our perceptions. If her character seems to struggle with the invisible limitations of an inner prison, her ironic sparkling gaze soon subverts the course of the narrative to reclaim control of the situation. Anxiety, humor and provocation go hand in hand in the space Juhász creates, where the audience – who sits very close to the stage – plays an important role. Her gestures combine hyperpop culture, demonology, and – among other choreographic references – a nod and playful homage to Rosas danst rosas, a major piece in contemporary dance which materializes a certain legacy. Juhász’s energy, the width of her movements, the quality of her dance and her magnetic personality transform anxiety into a creative space.

biography

Born in Hungary Adél Juhász is a dancer and choreographer. She studied contemporary dance in the contemporary dance academy in Budapest, and then in La Manufacture – Lausanne. She developed a singular language which combines expressivity, visual hallucination and an intense physicality. Based in Geneva, she founded the contemporary dance company HucH. As an associate artist with L’Abri – Genève, she created her solo László Károlyné in 2021, which was coproduced with Emergentia festival. The piece was created in Pavillon ADC and it has since been performed many times in France, Hungary and Bulgaria. Juhász is a member of the OuinchOuinch collective, with whom she has been touring internationally since 2022 with the piece HappyHype. With Salômé Guillemin-Poeuf and Camille Poudret, she created Technopagans – Tuning Your Inner Cables, which was presented in La Bâtie – Festival de Genève in 2022. As a performer, she has worked with Simone Aughterlony, Ceylan Öztrük, Viktor Szeri, Gergő D. Farkas and Anna Biczók, among others.
